Enhancing Guildford's Community

Upgrades to the electricity network form a key part of the Weyside urban regeneration to ensure a reliable power supply, for new and existing residents.  UKPN are providing a new electricity substation and installing new underground electricity cables.


Upgrading power networks in Bellfields and Slyfield 

UK Power Networks (UKPN) is installing new underground electricity cables in several roads across the area, then connecting them to the electricity network.  This works is being delivered by their contractor Clancy.  Work to install cables along Bellfields Road is now finished. The next phase of work will take place on Woking Road, at the junction with Stoke Mill Close.


Project Details

  • Start Date: 2 December 2024
  • Completion Date: 13 December 2024



Key Information:

  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.00 am to 5.00 pm; Saturday 8.00 am to 1.00 pm
  • Access: On-street parking will be temporarily restricted in the work zone. Resident access will be maintained
  • Noise: There may be some noise from the excavation activities. 
  • Electricity Supply: No interruptions expected

Project Scope:


In addition to laying new cables, a new electricity substation is being constructed. This will provide power for the new Weyside Urban Village. UKPN are also undertaking upgrades to the Guildford Grid Substation at Woodbridge Road to improve the electricity network.
